Artist Statement
My intention for this project was to bring awareness to endangered animals. The main subject of this video is a panther and she is running from human expansion and greed, although no matter where she runs humans are able to catch up and destroy her home. The synth used in the latter half of the video has a more sinister tone, it also ques the visual of fire, eventually there is a fence and no more jungle. The rate of deforestation is equal to the loss of 20 football fields every minute, it is estimated that there will be no rain forests within 100 years. I hope to spread awareness about this issue and help to slow down the rate at which it is being destroyed. Inspiration for this video came from The Jungle Book and Chet Fakers’ “1998” music video. I achieved my video by vectorising my drawings (many of which didn’t make the final cut). Animating the loops in aftereffects then importing them into premier-pro and editing accordingly using a mask of the panthers running animation. Audio was created in garage band despite wanting to use a more complex program. I’ll save that for another time. I hope you enjoy.
